I collected bright, numbered tickets from the gutters of
San Francisco in 2000. They are, predominantly, car-parking receipts,
but looked like large-format, individually numbered, confetti on the
street - as though a parade for giant robots had just ended.
I held on to the tickets for almost two years before they became the
subject of this
painting.
The finished image reminds me of pictures by Jeffrey Smart and Rosalie
Gascoigne (though I shrink in their immense artistic shadows).
